#PLATEFORAMATE

Through food, Plate for a Mate creates lasting impact for Australia’s vulnerable by raising funds for various social causes. We bring amazing people together to support charities that we believe in and bring warmth to people’s lives. Food facilitates conversation, encouraging people to lower their guards and bond over shared meals. Plate for a Mate helps people to reach out to their loved ones while supporting those in need.

2023

#PLATEFORAMATE

Poverty, hunger, and homelessness are rising across Australia. The biggest increase in living expenses in more than 20 years and the highest inflation in three decades mean thousands are struggling to put food on the table and pay bills.

Help us make a difference!

#PlateForAMate is an awareness campaign, now in its fourth year, raising funds for the Black Dog Institute’s mental health research programs.

In 2023 our chefs are also showing Aussie families how to create affordable, premium meals and still save money.

2022

#PLATEFORAMATE

In 2022, community mental health in rural Australia is at an all-time low. Help us make a difference!
This year the focus is on supporting the mental health of our farmers, and people who work hard to put food on our plates. Farmers are doing it tough.

In the last few years 40% of farmers have experienced depression. In rural communities farmers are twice as like to take their own life.

#PlateForaMate22 We’re encouraging all Australians to make a donation and ‘share a plate with a mate’, reminding us of the importance of shared meals as a way of addressing mental health issues

2021

#COOK2CONNECT

Following a year of lockdowns and social distancing, #Cook2Connect is helping Australians reconnect with each other while aiding those who continue to experience food insecurity by supporting OzHarvest’s food relief. With more Australians than ever feeling lonely, ‘Share a Plate with a Mate’ is helping Aussies to reach out to each other and bond over food through recipes designed to be shared.

2020

#HOMECOOKED

The extraordinary success of #HomeCooked in 2020 raised over $40 000 AUD for OzHarvest’s #HereForHope and saw over 300 000 meals provided to people experiencing food insecurity. During a year filled with uncertainty, the #HomeCooked campaign sought to provide Australians with warmth and community following the COVID-19 crisis and devastating bushfire season.

Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute was founded in 2002 and affiliated with UNSW and Prince of Wales Hospital. Depression is sometimes referred to as the ‘Black Dog’ and like a dog it needs to be embraced, understood, taught new tricks and ultimately brought to a heel. The Institute addresses new challenges and opportunities in mental health, investigating mood disorders and new ways to treat and prevent conditions like anxiety and depression.

OzHarvest

Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn AO, OzHarvest had humble beginnings starting with one van in Sydney rescuing food and delivering it to local charities. Since then, they have become a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering to charities that help to feed people in need. Their team inspires and educations Australians about food waste, food security and sustainability to create a sustainable food culture.
